On the Spot
A Glasgow internet company since 1997, rebuilt as a modular growth platform for small businesses.

On the Spot has helped Scottish businesses with domain names, email, hosting and websites since 1997, and is run today by director Stefan Cent. It is being revitalised with new investment, strategy and technology. The new model is a modular platform for small and medium businesses: a website, search visibility, an AI assistant, enquiry handling and content publishing, configured around each client and supported by a real team in Glasgow. On the Spot runs the platform on its own business first, and existing clients will move onto the modules as they are introduced.

- Trading since 1997. The new platform is in production and runs On the Spot's own enquiries, assistant and content. The new website goes live at onthespot.co.uk from 30 October 2026.
Why it needed to exist
Small businesses are asked to manage a growing list of tools: a website, search listings, enquiries, email, reviews and now their visibility in AI answers. Most buy them separately, connect none of them and see little benefit.
On the Spot had decades of customer trust, but a service built around domains and hosting. Manual agency work does not scale well. A shared platform lets a small team deliver more useful services to many clients without each one becoming a bespoke project.
The product, as it works today
One platform, separate client data
A single platform serves the agency and every client, with each client's records kept separate at the database level. The team manages domains, email, hosting and modules from one client view.
Website builder
A guided setup turns a business's details into a site assembled from tested page blocks, with search metadata, structured data and a guide for AI crawlers generated automatically.
AI assistant
An assistant answers visitor questions from knowledge the business has approved, and can pass a conversation on as an enquiry. It is live on On the Spot's own site.
Enquiries and CRM
Website enquiries arrive in a CRM with a pipeline, notes and assignment, and the right people are alerted by push notification or email.
Content publishing
Guides and news are drafted with AI from checked sources, verified against the facts in those sources and approved by a person before publication.
Modules and billing
Clients switch on the modules they need, each with its own monthly price, so the service grows with the customer.
What each part is for
- Shared platform
- A feature built once is available to every client, which lowers the cost of serving small businesses well.
- AI assistant
- Answers routine questions at any hour and captures enquiries that would otherwise be lost overnight.
- Enquiry alerts and CRM
- New enquiries are seen and followed up quickly, for On the Spot and, in time, for its clients.
- Guided website builder
- New client sites take a fraction of the time of a custom build, with the search basics included by default.
- Modular pricing
- Clients can start small and add services, creating recurring revenue for On the Spot.
How it was built
How AI helped build it
The core platform was built in roughly a week in October 2026 with AI coding tools, working from detailed feature specifications. That pace would have been unrealistic for a small company relying on a conventional development team.
AI inside the product
- A website assistant that answers from approved business knowledge, live on On the Spot's own site.
- AI drafting of guides and news, with automatic fact checks and human approval before publishing.
Integrations
- Supabase
- Anthropic, OpenAI and Gemini models
- Google Places
- Resend email
- Vercel
